You can program a universal remote using direct code entry, an automatic code search, or by using an IR learning function to copy signals from your original remote.

Direct Code Entry. Locate the code for your device brand in the manual or online. Put the remote in programming mode (often by holding Setup), select the device type, enter the code, and test the power and volume buttons.
Auto Code Search. If you lack a code, put the remote in programming mode, select the device, and repeatedly press the Power or Channel button until the device responds. Save the code immediately once found.
IR Learning Mode. If supported, place your original and universal remotes face-to-face. Use the universal remote's learning mode to copy specific button functions from the original remote to the new one.
Troubleshooting Tips. Ensure the device is fully powered on, not in standby. Use fresh batteries, and if a code provides only partial control, try other codes from the list for your specific brand.
